The Water Cycle

CoboStories is a fun, educational thing to do together at home. Children and adults can participate on equal terms and everyone learns something along the way. It’s challenging and exciting and time consuming. It requires concentration and imagination and certainly provides a lot of hours of cooperation!
When making stopmotion stories at home, you need to prepare well.
What you need is:

  • A tablet with the CoboStories app installed. Look in the menu on the left and click on the download link that matches your needs 🙂
  • A stand to hold your tablet. You can do that yourself here or here. You can buy a CoboStories stand here
  • You’ll need backgrounds, characters, and content you can use to animate with. They can be downloaded here: of course, you can also just be creative and make your own.
Here’s a template to create CoboStories content with:

Remember that everything can be used when making movies – only the imagination sets the limits…

If you want to know how the app works, see here:

Have fun!

As a teaching aid, CoboStories is second to none – especially when dealing with difficult subjects. The children can create their own pictures of a lot of difficult thoughts and ideas. During these trying times it is also a good tool to get mom and dad involved in teaching from home.

It is important when doing stop-motion to understand the following principles:

We always work linearly. That is, you start your movie by shooting the first image and then you work slowly forward until you reach the last picture. You can’t change the order afterwards.

This creates a need for good planning. Our suggestion is that you work this way:

  • Investigate your subject. If – for instance – you’re going to make a film about hoarding in connection with the Corona crisis, start by examining this topic together. You will find lots of information from relevant sources inside the course page on platform.cobostories.com. (the page where you are reading this!) (The page you’re reading this on – scroll down and click on challenges!)
  • Make a storyboard. You can download and print a template here – or you can just draw them yourself. A storyboard is a quick description of which scenes to shoot – and what should happen in each scene.
  • Get all the items ready. Make sure you have the backgrounds and characters you need.
  • Smile and wave – remember we’re having fun!
  • Record the movie in the CoboStories app. Make as many pictures as you can – and remember that small movements are best! Use the “Ghost Filter” (Onion Skin) to see the last image relative to the next image.
  • Press “Play” often. It is good to look at what you are doing along the way – and it also ensures that you have to change as little as possible!
  • Enjoy the mistakes. Every time you get a little smarter!
  • Make sound for the movie! You can record 1 soundtrack and put on 1 piece of music. Remember to do so – and don’t be afraid to sound stupid – it can easily be changed if you accidentally say something wrong!
  • Remember that when you save the movie, it is locked and can no longer be edited!
  • Use the gallery to see some of the movies others have made and get inspired.
  • Remember to uploadyour movies when you’re done – so others can enjoy it in the gallery!

With CoboStories, the most important thing is that children get their own stories put words and pictures. And especially when the subjects are difficult. When working with CoboStories, we try to stay in a process that ensures that we get around all important elements. This is what we call CoboStories learning process and you can see the different stages under the description below. The process is a tool you can use to help you in planning your work.

To get started quickly and easily, download the CoboStories app for iPad or Android tablets/Chromebook:
